Assessment terms
What damage may still be eligible for exchange?
We assess banknotes using the criteria applied by the National Bank of Ukraine when determining whether they are fit for payment. As a general rule, damaged notes may be eligible for exchange when at least 55% of the original area remains.
- The banknote has a hole or a missing piece.
- The banknote is torn or cut into several pieces, including pieces taped back together.
- The banknote is torn in half but the series and serial number match on both halves.
- The banknote has fire, water or chemical damage but does not crumble during inspection.
If the remaining area is difficult to estimate visually, we measure it accurately with a dedicated grid.
If less than 55% remains or authenticity is uncertain, an additional expert examination is required. We will advise where to apply.
